History of Mattancherry Palace in Kochi:

Bolgatty Palace is a former palace built by the Dutch in 1744 and is one of the oldest existing Dutch palaces outside of Holland. It was originally built by Dutch traders and later extended, with gardens landscaped around it.

The building was then the Governor’s palace for the commander of Dutch Malabar, and in 1909 was leased to the British. It served as the home of the British governors, being the seat of the British Resident of Cochin until India’s independence.

Today, Bolgatty Palace has been converted into a heritage hotel, known as Bolgatty Palace and Island Resort, managed by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC).

How to reach Bolgatty Palace and Island Resort

By Air:

The nearest airport to Bolgatty Palace and Island Resort is the Cochin International Airport (COK). The airport is located about 25 kilometers from the resort. From the airport, you can take a taxi or bus to the resort. The taxi fare will be around INR 500 and the bus fare will be around INR 50.

By Train:

The Ernakulam Junction is located about 5 kilometers from the resort. From the railway station, you can take a taxi or rickshaw to the resort. The taxi fare will be around INR 100 and the rickshaw fare will be around INR 50.

By Road:

If you are driving to Bolgatty Palace and Island Resort, you can take the NH 47 highway. The resort is located just off the highway. The drive from Ernakulam city center will take about 15 minutes.
