History of Vandiperiyar

Vandiperiyar was originally a small tribal village in Kerala which was later ruled by the Chera, Pandya dynasty, and the Travancore kingdom.

In the 19th century, the British East India Company established a tea plantation in Vandiperiyar and in the year 1972, the Vandiperiyar Wildlife Sanctuary was established by the government of Kerala.
